Your book has been accepted by a publisher. Now what? Sit back and wait?

Actually the best publishers don’t want you to sit back and wait. Good publishers start early with manuscripts, sending them to reviewers, library associations, book sellers and others. They try to get as much buzz started as they can. Good buzz may be author interviews with bloggers or magazines, a push for a literary or commercial prize, or an endorsement from a group that will benefit from your book. For instance, if your book is a memoir about breast cancer, they will want to get endorsements from the Komen Race for The Cure Association.

Next. a good publisher will advertise the novel in magazines and on the internet. They will not limit their advertising to their own websites or publications.

Next, they will plan a book launch to promote you in New York, LA or other large city. Finally, they will arrange a book tour and media appearances.

Certainly some books are easier to promote than others, but a good publisher will look for every angle to help your book become a best seller. After the initial push, however, the promotion may be up to you.

For many years, writers wanting to get their manuscript published had to find a publishing house that would be interested in publishing their work. This often took years and many rejections before finding a publisher. Many publishers require that writers have an agent to represent them, and a contract has to be negotiated.

In recent years, advancements in computers and the internet have allowed writers to prepare and publish a book project entirely on their own if they want. Hiring different people to handle various parts of a book project has also become popular. Writers can hire an editor, a proofreader, or a graphic artist, then pay them for each function.

Another great help for aspiring writers is the advent of simple website programs, which allow anyone to create their own website easily and publish it on the internet. A variation of the website is a personal blog, where writers can publish news about their book project at timely intervals.

Either a simple blog or website can be used to advertise any kind of product or service, and are ideal for writers to let the world know what they have to offer, such as their new book and future plans.

As a writer you’ve probably thought a lot about publishing a book. You may have even sent your writing to publishers who for whatever reason have rejected your work, but if you feel as though your thoughts need to be heard there are some ways you can publish your own work. If you’ve money to invest, the first way to self-publish is to pay a publisher to publish your book. There are many publishers who will charge a fee to publish your book without the hassle of rejection. This method is expensive, but if your book sells your investment will come back to you. Another good way of self-publishing is through the internet. There are plenty of sites that will allow you to publish your work online for free. Your work will generate advertising revenue which the site you published on will share with you. This method is hard to generate income, but is a good way to promote your writing so you can gain a good following for your writing. These simple ways to publish your own work have their pros and cons, but if you want to get your writing recognized they are both good avenues to pursue.

There are several ways to get your book published. however there are three main ways. The three main ways are traditional publishing, subsidy publishing and self publishing. All three ways are great options, it just depends on what works best for you and your situation.

Traditional publishing consists of submitting book proposals through an agent. Remember though, with traditional publishing, it is your responsibility to work with the publishing company’s editor and to allow them to take care of the layout, printing and cover layout. Another option is going through a subsidy publisher. Subsidy publishers will make sure you provide all the finances needed to produce, print, and distribute your book but you will always have to carry the publishers name or imprint.

The last option is self publishing which is becoming more and more popular. Self publishing allows you to form your very own publishing company, being in charge of everything. Self publishing allows you to make all the big decisions, offering the flexibility and freedom that you would not receive from traditional publishing or subsidy publishing. Each method has it’s advantages and disadvantages, it really all comes down to what method will fit your financial and flexibility needs.

Being a writer and working on your own without the use of an agent will require you, as the author, to seek out and find representation by a publisher to get your work out to the masses. One of the initial steps ion the process is to find a publisher who will agree to work with you and offers services that you want and need. Your goal as being an author is to make sure your book reaches a wide audience, and that the publisher uses a well defined and professional process. One of the ways to get a publisher to work with you is for you to have your book completed, edited and ready for viewing by the publisher. Once you have your final work ready, you can better convince a publisher to work directly with you. You will need to approach the publisher in a professional manner, ask for a specific outline of their process for submission, meet with the publisher in person or by phone and follow all requests made of you in a fast and complete manner to help show your professionalism. Publishers receive numerous requests, and you need to be one that stands out in terms of your personality and attention to detail.
